Well, it seems that both women and men covet masculine fragrances. With many women these days wearing a partners scent or deodorant through choice.
Distinctive Wash identified a gap in the laundry market and launched the world’s first masculine fragranced detergent in 2012. And although it seems more expensive than mainstream brands there is a good reason.
So why come up with it?
In the early days of researching our product, we went on a hunt to find a ‘masculine scent,’ variety of washing powder in our local supermarket. What did we find? Ylang ylang, hibiscus, passionflower, but no masculine scents.
And it was on the web that things really started to get interesting, countless blogs from men doing their own laundry, who wanted to make their laundry smell more like a man’s scent, and less floral. Plus, letters from gents who had experimented at home in order to create that masculine scent. Including, attempts to use shaving foam or men’s shower gel in the washing machine. Not something we would recommend unless you want to leave white marks similar to those left by a bad deodorant on a black t-shirt!
So Louise the founder of Distinctive decided to get busy and explore producing the first ever masculine scented, laundry range for men. As you can imagine it was the start of a roller-coaster ride. Just a year after teaming up with laundry manufacturing experts and a fragrance house, Distinctive’s seductive, masculine scent in laundry powder, was born.
It’s superior because it is specifically designed to work at low temperatures, using less water and heating to achieve a deep down clean, plus, it doesn’t need an extra fabric softener product or any stain remover. Actually saving you £’s and giving you a bit more space in the cleaning cupboard!

The warmer your body gets or if the fabric is in direct heat (i.e. on holiday in the sun) it smells even better. Heat activates the fragrance molecules making them bump and grind.
Acts like a sticky bud, anchoring fragrance molecules to your clothes. Your clothes will smell distinctive when they leave the washing machine. Body-heat or the heat from the sun activates Distinctive, the hotter you get, the better you smell.
